After postponing the start of traffic twice due to the pandemic, there is now a new start date for Wizz Air’s route between Skellefteå and Gdansk. On March 29 next year, the idea is for the traffic to start.
On June 4, 2020, Wizz Air would start flying between Skellefteå and Gdansk in Poland. However, the corona pandemic put an end to it and a new start date was set for March 31 this year. However, the development of the pandemic meant that Wizz Air chose to wait further, but now a new start date has been set for March 29, 2022.
“We are pleased that Wizz Air is choosing Skellefteå and this is very positive news for both residents and the business community. The line provides increased accessibility and creates new opportunities for our communication with the outside world, which is important for our growth and development, ”says Skellefteå Airport’s CEO Robert Lindberg.
From March 29, Wizz Air will fly between Skellefteå and Gdansk twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, all year round. Departure time from Skellefteå to Gdansk is 22.25 with landing at Lech Wałęsa Airport outside Gdansk at 00.25, the next day, both on Tuesdays and Saturdays. From Gdansk to Skellefteå there will be a departure time at 19.45 with arrival at Skellefteå Airport at 21.50. Wizz Air’s aircraft fleet consists of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft that can accommodate 180 and 230-239 passengers, respectively.
“We think it is extremely gratifying that Skellefteå gets a new regular direct line from Europe. That it is served all year round is important for our hospitality industry, which is constantly growing and developing seasonally. From Skellefteå Airport, it is easy to get on to the whole of Swedish Lapland, so the development of the airport is very important to us, ”says Cecilia Petzäll, destination development strategist at the Swedish Lapland Visitors Board about the new airline.
