GOTHENBURG GETS A NEW SKI ROUTE TO SWITZERLAND THIS WINTER

Gothenburg Landvetter Airport will have a new airline this winter that targets skiers. The tour operator Lion Alpin arranges flights to St. Gallen in Switzerland with a departure a week between January and March in 2022.

On January 22, Gothenburg Landvetter Airport will for the first time receive direct flights to Sankt Gallen-Altenrhein Airport in Switzerland when the tour operator Lion Alpin starts offering flights every Saturday with a focus on ski travelers. From Sankt Gallen there is a convenient direct transfer to Austrian Tyrol and the ski resorts of St. Anton and Ischgl, less than 1.5 hours to St. Anton and 2 hours to Ischgl.

The flights between Gothenburg and Sankt Gallen will run until March 19 and Lion Aplin uses the Austrian airline People’s which is based at Sankt Gallen airport and they will operate the route with an Embraer 170 which has room for 76 passengers. Lion Alpin also offers for the first time weekend trips / short trips from Landvetter with departures either Saturday-Tuesday or Tuesday-Saturday to St. Anton and Ischgl.

Although travel is still strongly affected by the pandemic, demand for air travel has increased, both in the form of scheduled flights and charter flights, states Swedavia, which operates Gothenburg Landvetter. The recovery for air travel continued in August and for the second month in a row the number of passengers reaches the highest level since the start of the pandemic. Gothenburg Landvetter Airport had a total of almost 265,000 passengers in August, a decrease of 58 percent compared with August 2019. Compared with August last year, the increase in passengers was a total of 155 percent.
