According to Reuters, Wizz Air has placed a bid for the British low-cost competitor easyJet, but easyJet definitely says no to the beginning of a takeover from Wizz Air.
An offer for parts of easyJet’s shares has been submitted by low – price rival Wizz Air. It reports Reuters. easyJet’s board, however, gave a clear message on how to look at a possible takeover from Wizz Air when they said no to the offer. Instead, the British low-cost airline will raise almost SEK 15 billion through a new share issue and loan to make it through the coming winter season.
A possible takeover of easyJet would, together with Wizz Air, create a large low-cost company as a competitor to Ryanair. Wizz Air today has a strong focus on traffic to and from Eastern Europe, while easyJet mainly flies in the western parts, which means that the companies’ route networks complement each other relatively well.
