Bromma Airport can be closed down sometime between 2025 and 2027 if such a decision is made next year. It shows an investigation into a closure of the city airport that the government has now received.
The Swedish Transport Administration’s chairman Magnus Persson has now handed over his investigation into a closure of the operations and operations at Bromma Airport. It states that a closure of the airport can take place sometime between 2025 and 2027 if a decision on closure is made next year, which is possible according to Persson. Swedavia currently has an agreement with the City of Stockholm to conduct aviation operations at Bromma Airport until 2038, but this agreement can be terminated prematurely.
A majority in the traffic committee has previously voted against the government’s proposal to close Stockholm’s city airport and in an announcement to the government it was written that Bromma airport will continue to be a modern airport and that a decision on a closure can not be made until the flight has recovered. The inquiry, which has now been handed over to the government, will be submitted for consultation and at a press conference, Minister of Infrastructure Tomas Eneroth said that he looks forward to discussing the inquiry in the Riksdag’s traffic committee.
At Bromma Airport today, there are many different operations and scheduled flights are operated mainly on domestic routes through BRA, Air Leap and abroad to Brussels Airlines. Bromma Airport also uses socially important flights, such as ambulance flights, business flights and helicopter flights. How these will be affected by a closure of Bromma is not certain, but the investigation indicates that solutions are needed.
Magnus Persson also sees that Swedavia should “Brommafiera” Arlanda to create a time-efficient journey that Bromma Airport can offer today, but Arlanda can not in the same way. According to Magnus Persson, a “Bromma celebration” of Arlanda involves rebuilding of terminals that will be better adapted for point-to-point traffic, which is a large part of the traffic at Bromma Airport. The inquiry also states that the climate effects of a closure of Bromma Airport are negligible, while of course the noise will be reduced if Bromma Airport is closed down.
